17 volunteers from the Melville Club were invited to Shrewsbury Abbey 17th March 2024 for the High Sheriff’s service of thanksgiving for the King’s peace & our heritage. This service was in the presence of His Majesty’s Judiciary.
What a wonderful colour occasion, certainly a sight to behold with all the pomp & ceremony. With the amount of hours & energy the Melville Club volunteers give it is nice to see the other end of the spectrum.
On behalf of the Melville Club thankyou to outgoing High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mandy Thorn, MBE DL, for all your hard work & support.

Part 4:- Dr ‘Melville’ Legge {Melville}. ֍ The Military Man ֍
Melville joined the Royal Army Medical Corp {RAMC}, it not clear what date he joined as he was already a fully qualified Doctor & Dentist. He was trained at Sandhurst & commissioned as a Lt. It is a possibility he did join in April 1915 while an RAMC officer & as part of his training & development for war he went to Hatton Grange {VAD}. Posted to France in May 1915, not clear how long he was there.
On his service card for Hatton Grange, his brothers also served at Hatton as did Joan Legge. His records record hours only, & that he was part time from April 1915 to Feb 1919. Maybe then he got a home posting to deal with Army war wounded as part of his duties allowing him to do some part time work at Hatton Grange with recuperation, more serious cases would be at Wolverhampton Royal. Melville received 2 War medals, Victory Medal & 1914/1915 British War Medal. It is also mentioned he may have been detached to the 2nd Dragoons.
The RAMC would have been on the front line in a regimental dressing station, or in a Field Ambulance which was an evacuation unit to prep for a casualty clearing station behind the lines or hospital on the coast of France ready to move wounded back to Blighty.
