In the quaint town of Albrighton, Shropshire, a social haven for the over 55s has been quietly making waves for half a century. The Melville Club, formerly known as the Derby & Joan Club, recently marked its 50th birthday, and the festivities were nothing short of spectacular. This milestone celebration not only honoured the club’s rich history but also paid tribute to the incredible individuals who have contributed to its success over the years.






A Remarkable 97th Birthday:
Amidst the joyous celebration, a particularly remarkable individual took the spotlight. Mr. Richard Gulliver, affectionately known as RG, celebrated his 97th birthday on the 24th of February. His presence added an extra layer of significance to the event, highlighting the enduring spirit of the club and the vitality it brings to its members.
Distinguished Guests:
The 50th-anniversary celebration of The Melville Club was graced by esteemed guests, including The High Sheriff Mandy Thorn MBE, DL. The unveiling of a commemorative brass plaque by Ms. Thorn marked a symbolic moment in the club’s history. Jenny Wynn, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, and her husband, Dr. Graham Wynn, also added their distinguished presence to the occasion.
Other notable VIPs in attendance were Dr. Nigel Hester & Mrs. Rita Hester, Cllr. David Beechey, Mr. Del Mattinson, and Mr. Francis McMorrow. The top table was adorned with the presence of the venerable Mr. Richard Gulliver (Snr), who, along with his two sons and their partners, shared in the celebration of his 97th birthday.
